Marine Research Funding & Support
Supporting marine research through targeted funding, active partnership, and program-based support.
How We Support Marine Research
Marine research and ocean conservation efforts often depend on more than a strong idea. It requires the right support, the right partnership, and in many cases the right resources to move meaningful work forward. This initiative exists to help enable marine research through targeted funding, active collaboration, and program-based support that can adapt to the needs of the work.
Through this initiative, we support research in more than one way. Some projects benefit most from direct funding. Others benefit from active partnership, practical support, or a combination of both. By creating multiple pathways for engagement, we can help strong research ideas move from concept to execution while supporting outcomes that have lasting value beyond a single project.
This keeps the section in the same style as the rest of the site while still setting up the two-program structure cleanly. Through marine research funding and support, we help enable projects to move from concept to execution with meaningful outcomes.
Programs Within This Initiative
Marine Research Funding & Support includes two distinct programs designed to help strong research ideas move forward through different types of partnership and support.
Micro-Grants Program
The Micro-Grants Program supports defined marine research projects through targeted funding and collaborative project support. This program is designed for research efforts with a clear objective, practical scope, and measurable outcomes.
Student Partnership Program
The Student Partnership Program supports student-led marine research through active partnership and practical project support. This program is designed to help strong research ideas move from concept to execution through collaborative involvement.
What We Prioritize
Across both programs, we prioritize marine research projects that are clearly defined, practically structured, and capable of producing meaningful outcomes through active partnership and support.
Criteria
A clear research objective or question
A defined scope and realistic timeline
A practical plan for how the work will be carried out
Thoughtful expected outcomes and proposed deliverables
A strong case for why the work matters
A willingness to engage in an active partnership
An openness to shared use of project outputs generated through the work
Alignment with marine research and ocean conservation priorities
